Designed and built by the award winning Lune Valley Pods, our glamping pods are designed with your comfort in mind.
Our pods provide the ultimate escape, nestled in a rural landscape, nature gently meets modern living. Our pods have been designed with comfort at the forefront, the outer design designed to blend in with the breathtaking hillside backdrops over the Ireland and Maywick valley. Our pods are not just a place to stay, they are an almost off-grid experience that you can immerse yourself in. Relax and recharge.
Settled on the hillside facing north, within a low light pollution area, our pods provide the best opportunities to witness the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis. Our pods face north out over Maywick beach towards Burra, looking out to the Atlantic Ocean, the sea views provide an ever changing landscape.
The Shetland name for the Northern Lights is 'The Mirrie Dancers', the word Mirrie comes from a Shetland word meaning "to shimmer or tremble", reflecting the dancing, shimmering appearance of the lights.
Inside our pods you will enter a private, relaxing space, tastefully furnished with high quality materials, and a thoughtful layout that ensures every guest can unwind in style. At the centre of the pod is a fully-equipped kitchenette, boasting all the essential appliances and utensils, including a coffee maker, oven and dishwasher. At the far end a closed off bedroom with rustic sliding door, provides a sanctuary kitted out with a king size bed, clean and cosy bedding, a small hanging space wardrobe and desk. Bedside shelves and sockets in easily accessible spots. A good quality hair dryer is stored in the desk shelf for your convenience.
Our site includes a utility building housing shared laundry facilities, washing machine, 2 tumble dryers, a clothes drying rack, cleaning materials, iron and complementary laundry consumables. This building is for use by all guests on site throughout the accommodation buildings and we take no responsibility for personal items within this building, any items are left at owners risk.

Transport Possibilities
We strongly advise guests to use a vehicle to get around due to the rural location of our site.
The closest bus stop/route is 2 miles from Mirrie Möra.
Our site is 12 miles from Sumburgh Airport.
Our site is 19 miles from Northlink Ferry Terminal in Lerwick.
The road to Mirrie Möra is tarred most of the way, with a few miles of single track road towards the accommodation which is common throughout Shetland, the last section on approach to Mirrie Möra is a hardcore track which may occasionally be subject to small potholes. We maintain this track to a high standard and it is easily accessible by vehicle, on foot or by bicycle.
Neighborhood
Our Star pods at Mirrie Möra are set on the hill in the Ireland Road, near Bigton in the South Mainland of the Shetland Islands.
Bigton Community Shop is 2.3 miles south and stocks a good range of groceries with regular deliveries of fresh products.
The closest beach to our accommodation is the stunning secluded Maywick Beach which can be accessed on foot (5minute hill terrain walk) or by car (4.5miles). The access to Maywick beach is quite steep, and the path can be uneven. Be advised the access may not be suitable for guests with impaired mobility.
St Ninians Isle (2.6 miles) is the largest tombolo in the UK, which is a beach bridge across to the Isle of St Ninians with the ocean coming in from both sides. The shape of St Ninians Isle is constantly changing with the seasons and tides. During the summer, the lower tides ensure the tombolo is above sea level and accessible to walkers. However in the winter, the entire beach can be submerged. A free public car park is available at St Ninians Isle, with a small gentle slope to the beach. There are picnic benches overlooking the beach, ideal for a relaxing outdoor snack.
Shetland is well known for its diverse wildlife, from Puffins (Tammie Norrie), to Orcas, to Shetland Ponies(Sheltie) and Otters(Draatsi), there is plenty to keep an eye out for or go hunting for a glimpse.
